Haycarb Strengthens Energy Storage Carbon Capabilities with the Board of Investment, Sri Lanka

In line with this global shift, Haycarb PLC has entered into an agreement with the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka to further expand its energy storage carbon manufacturing capabilities. This investment builds on Haycarb’ s long-term efforts to expand beyond its traditional activated carbon applications and strengthens its capabilities in advanced energy materials.

The expansion focuses on two key areas: supercapacitor carbons for high-power energy storage, and advanced carbons used in silicon-carbon composite anodes for next-generation lithium-ion batteries. Supercapacitor carbons supports fast charge-discharge cycles, and reliable performance over long operating periods, making them well suited for applications that require quick energy delivery. At the same time, silicon–carbon anode materials help improve energy density and charging efficiency, addressing key performance needs in modern battery systems.

Supporting Industry and Strengthening national Capability

This investment delivers impact across multiple dimensions. At an industry level, this investment supports the continued growth of electric mobility, renewable energy systems, and other technologies that depend on efficient energy use. As energy storage becomes more central to the global energy transition, access to high-performance materials will be critical in enabling further innovation and scale.

At a national level, this milestone positions Sri Lanka within the advanced materials value chain. It demonstrates the country’s potential to develop and manufacture high-value industrial materials for global markets, strengthening export competitiveness while contributing to industrial capability development. By building on local expertise in carbon manufacturing and materials engineering, Haycarb continues to position Sri Lanka as a reliable hub for advanced manufacturing.
