Haycarb Madampe Facility organized the annual blood donation campaign on 10th March 2017 at the factory premises. Over 125 donors, including Haycarb employees and well as community members participated at the event held on Friday. The donation camp has been administrated by the Chilaw General Hospital and the donations will be submitted to the hospital blood bank. The Company has arranged and sponsored for all the facilities required as well as refreshments for the donors.
The event has been organized for the 9th time by Haycarb Madampe Facility, where is it organized alternatively by taking turns with Haycarb Badalgama Facility each year. This worthy cause of helping save lives of the critically ill has been supported since 2002 by the Company. Over the years it has been held, almost 1000 pints of blood has been donated to the Blood Bank of Chilaw General Hospital through this initiative.
Speaking at this occasion Mr. Rajitha Kariyawasan, Managing Director of Haycarb Group said “This is yet another noble CSR initiative to save lives organized by Haycarb Group every year in Sri Lanka. Haycarb Group established its operations more than four decades ago at Madampe, Sri Lanka to become a leading global player in coconut activated carbons. Our economic, social and environmental sustainability is well established during the long years of successful operations in Sri Lanka. Apart from these initiatives we have been very active on major CSR platforms in Sri Lanka through both “Haritha Angara” (environmental friendly charcoaling to support local entrepreneurship) and “Purtias Sath Diyawara” (providing purified drinking water to CKD affected villages and supporting/empowering village schools/talent). We will continue to be at the forefront of CSR initiatives as a core value in our business conduct.”
Haycarb PLC, the Sri Lankan multinational of Hayleys PLC reported revenue of USD 64 million and profit before tax of USD 5.2 million for 9 months ending 31 December 2016. The profit after tax stood at USD 4.3 million. The turnover increased by 12%, while the profit before tax and after tax recorded a growth of 9% and 8% respectively compared to the comparative period last year.
Haycarb PLC Managing Director Mr. Rajitha Kariyawasan said that the company continued to face challenges in some locations due to the shortage of charcoal that was driven by adverse weather conditions that prevailed in 2016. However, the company’s initiatives to strengthen raw material supply chain networks in other key locations contributed to sustaining charcoal supplies to support Group’s growing demand.
Mr. Kariyawasan further said, “the company continues to invest in acquisition of new customer accounts and product segments backed by continued focus on product development and commercialization of value added products that shows positive results. We also continued to expand sales volumes globally in our key markets. The challenges of cost increases were partially offset through lean and productivity improvement measures that resulted in increased efficiencies in processes and supply chain.”
He further noted that the Environmental Engineering arm, Puritas (Pvt.) Ltd., continued to make steady progress increasing its regional presence and is expected to continue its growth momentum.
Commenting on the future prospects and growth of the Group, Mr. Kariyawasan said that the company remains positive to achieve medium to long term growth in the background of increasing emphasis on environmental sustainability worldwide through the execution of its strategic plan for growth and diversification.

Clinches six top notch awards Including the Grand Slam award for winning the Award 5 times

Haycarb records turnover of Rs. 5.9 billion (USD 40.7 Mn) and profit before tax of Rs. 458 million (USD 3.1 Mn) for 1H 2016/17
The Sri Lankan multinational Haycarb PLC reported a revenue of Rs. 5.9 billion (USD 40.7 Mn) and profit before tax of Rs. 458 million (USD 3.1 Mn) for the six months ending 30thSeptember 2016. The profit after tax stood at Rs. 374 million (USD 2.5 Mn). The turnover increased by 8%, while the profit before tax and after tax recorded a growth of 10% and 7% respectively compared to the first half of the previous year.
Haycarb PLC Managing Director Mr. Rajitha Kariyawasan said that while the company’s initiatives to strengthen raw material supply chain networks in Sri Lanka and Thailand have made progress, the raw material supply chain in Indonesia faced setbacks due to adverse weather conditions and increased exports of charcoal.
He further said that “while depressed conditions in the gold mining sector continues to impact the profitability, the raw material situation in Indonesia will be an additional challenge the company will have to contend with, in the short term. On a positive note he added that successes in marketing and new product development initiatives resulting in the acquisition of new customer accounts and product segments increased the market reach of the company which is reflected in the improved top and bottom line. This was complemented by lean initiatives that streamlined processes which brought in cost efficiencies and productivity improvements.” He expressed confidence that the environmental engineering arm Puritas (Pvt.) Ltd., will continue on its strong growth trajectory in the second half of the year.
