As the gentle waves ripple along the pristine coastline of Kumana National Park, an exciting new chapter begins. In December 2024, Haycarb PLC launched the latest season of its \u201c\uac70\ubd81\uc774\ub97c \ubcf4\uc138\uc694<\/u><\/a>\u201c\u00a0conservation project, marking another milestone in its long-term commitment to preserving Sri Lanka\u2019s endangered sea turtle species. Since this impactful initiative began in 2020, it has successfully released thousands of sea turtle hatchlings, ensuring that these vital creatures continue to thrive in our ocean ecosystems. By working closely with the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the project combines conservation efforts with community engagement to protect species such as loggerhead, olive ridley, hawksbill, green, and leatherback turtles.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A New Season, Renewed Enthusiasm<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This season commenced with the collection of 1,400 turtle eggs from 12 carefully selected nesting sites along the Kumana coastline. These precious eggs were relocated to the Kirigalbae Turtle Hatchery, a controlled environment designed to protect them from potential predators and environmental threats. Our dedicated conservation team will continue its efforts until February 2025, ensuring that every hatchling is safely guided to the sea.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Our enthusiastic volunteers, including committed Haycarb employees, collaborate with wildlife officers to locate nests, monitor environmental conditions, and maintain the hatchery. This engaged and hands-on approach not only boosts hatchling survival rates but also deepens participants\u2019 connection to nature. Over the years, the project has successfully released over 4,200 hatchlings each year, demonstrating its positive impact on local turtle populations.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
